Buddhism originates from Nepal, where Siddharatha Gautama (563 – 483 B.C.) set up his teachings as the enlightened (Buddha). These teachings are still valid today.
Meaning of Buddhism
It is a tolerant religion, the aim of which is the alleviation of suffering. Everyone can participate and you are encouraged to do so.
Some say it is a life philosophy, as there is no God.
Human existence is marked by suffering. You suffer because you have desires and you suffer because you want to avoid unpleasant things. You can only avoid this by distance yourself from material life and stop/extinguish your desire for things. You shall do this moderately by finding a middle path.
Nirvana is the extinction of all suffering.unknown
Most Thai Buddhists aim for rebirth in a better existence. Followers are encouraged to learn and apply Buddha’s practices to daily life.
Rituals of Buddhism
By feeding monks (representatives of Buddha on earth), giving donations to temples and performing regular worship at the local wat (temple) they do improve their lot. Good actions (Karma = action) bring good results, bad actions bring bad results.
